The time has come to choose a CCA as part of your holistic development during your primary school life. In Taekwondo CCA, we are able to achieve a balance between the sports and the performing arts, which serves to toughen up pupils physically and mentally to achieve overall development in the individual. On top of all, Taekwondo prioritises the development of one's virtues and character above all, and our coaches here in BLGPS Taekwondo make it a point to enforce it on a daily basis.
To train our pupils to be adept in using the art of Taekwondo to maintain physical fitness and to increase proficiency in self-defence.
Our Vision:
To instil the core values of integrity, discipline, resilience and responsibility in our students.
Opportunities:
- Progression - We conduct 3-4 gradings each year, so if the student takes part in and passes all of them, they will eventually progress to obtain their junior black belt (poom belt) by the time they graduate from BLGPS.
- Inter-School Competitions - This year, 58 out of 61 eligible pupils had the opportunity to represent the school in the National Primary Schools Taekwondo Championship held yearly by the Singapore Taekwondo Federation (STF) in conjunction with National School Games (NSG) and Singapore Primary Schools Sports Council (SPSSC). We have also clinched medals in 14 individual categories and 3 team categories. A total of 21 pupils out of 58 participating pupils walked home with medals after the tournament. We have always striven to give competition exposure to as many students as possible, and have consistently done well in the competitions in the past few years. This time, we also clinched Overall 2nd place in the Senior Division Girls Poomsae Competition out of 137 participating schools!
- Sparring Training - Interested students who attained green-belt and above will be given the opportunity to take part in sparring training with strict adherence to MOE and STF safety guidelines.
- Lots of sweat, lots of fun - Taekwondo training will be tough, and that's the fun part. We make it a point to throw in fun elements in the form of small challenges and games during training to make sure our students have fun while they are training up their skills. Our training is physically demanding, but as they say, when the going gets tough, the tough gets going. Every year we see our members greatly improve in their physical and mental resilience over the year, and it is extremely rewarding.
Costs to expect:
- Instructor fees: (fully-subsidised by the school) Free!
- Grading fees each time the student registers for a grading session (optional) : $50 - $60
Make us your first choice!
As Taekwondo is a popular CCA choice in BLGPS, students in the past few years who only chose us as 2nd or 3rd choice were not allocated to Taekwondo CCA. So remember to choose us as your 1st choice if you really want to join Taekwondo CCA!
